On 21 January 2015, around 35 transport planners and public health practitioners attended a TPS Seminar to consider why and how the two professions can work better together. Speakers included the academic Harry Rutter who has been involved in a number of national and European initiatives aimed at promoting the health benefits of walking and cycling; Guy Hitchcock, one of the authors of the recent RAC Foundation report on Road Transport and Air Quality; and Adrian Barrit and Beth Capps who showed how the links between transport and health are being made on a practical basis at a local level using an example from Thurrock in Essex.  A lively discussion followed the presentations, during which participants identified a number of points that they would like to see included in TPS's manifesto in order to encourage the next Government to do more to support the links between transport and health. For example, a commitment to longer-term funding for sustainable transport initiatives was considered essential if there is to be a step-change in healthier travel habits.  All the speakers' presentations are now available
