The current composition of the Society's Board is as follows:
Kate is Head of Transport Planning at Leeds City Council and responsible for a wide range of areas from development of transport policy and strategy through to traffic management and UTMC . She is an advocate of the PDS and TPP qualification and is a trained PDS mentor and was a key contributor to the development of the Transport Planning Apprenticeship. She is the Company Secretary and responsible for the approval of membership applications.
Susan is a Senior Associate Director in Transport Planning at Jacobs in London with over 30 years’ experience in the profession. Her recent experience includes working on major transport projects in the UK, including the hybrid Bills for HS2 Phase One and Phase 2, Lower Thames Crossing and Crossrail 2. She is a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTTP) and a long-standing reviewer of the qualification. She is also an advocate of the TPS PDS.
Lisa is a Director and Joint Head of Planning at Steer. She has over 25 years’ experience of designing and implementing strategies and programmes which have successfully delivered a sustained level of mode shift away from the car, and increased use of sustainable transport.
She worked in the United States for six years until 2020 building a Planning practice for Steer and undertaking a range of TDM projects. Most recently she spent two years working at Heathrow Airport, leading the Surface Access Strategy team to deliver a strategy focused on passengers, colleagues and freight.
Nichola Byrne is as Associate Transport Planner with eight years’ experience in Transport Planning consultancy services, based in the West Midlands.
Nichola completed the Professional Development Scheme (PDS) in 2019 and achieved Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTTP) in 2020. She is now a mentor for PDS and TPP trainees in the North West and West Midlands.
Georgia is Lime's UK and Ireland Public Policy Manager, where she champions both the roll-out and legislative framework for a sustainable micro-mobility powered future. Prior to joining Lime, she worked as a Transport Planner in both the public and private sector, most recently leading on Behaviour Change programmes at the London Borough of Ealing, like Ealing's Liveable Neighbourhood scheme. Georgia was previously announced as Bursarian of the Year in 2019 as part of the Society's annual bursary competition and is currently studying for her MSc in Transport Planning and Management at the University of Westminster.
Tim is Director of Transport Planning at Jacobs and a leader within the wider Cities and Places part of the business. He has over 30 years’ experience in the industry and has held senior management roles in a number of top-tier consultancies both in the UK and overseas. Developing urban transport strategies, preparing business cases, transport master-planning, and sustainable modes are Tim’s primary areas of expertise. He enjoys working with young professionals and is a supporter of the transport planning apprenticeship scheme, TPS Professional Development Scheme and the TPP qualification. In his spare time he enjoys mountain biking and country walks.
Ruby is a Senior Transport Planner in Stantec’s Active Travel Team, based in Glasgow. Prior to this she worked for several years in London, including providing support to Camden and Enfield Borough Councils on their COVID-19 ‘emergency’ measures, and supporting the pan-London public sector transport group, LoTAG.
Now based in Scotland, she is currently working on improving access by active modes to employment locations in Renfrewshire, improvements to long distance footpaths in the Scottish Borders, and consulting with local stakeholders about Glasgow’s cycling improvements around the University of Strathclyde.
She was a TPS Bursarian in 2020 and won ‘Best Paper by a Young Professional’ at the 2018 TPM. She is passionate about widening and diversifying the appeal of walking and cycling both for leisure and transport.
Chris is an urban and transport planning specialist currently working for Stantec-UK leading on sustainable planning and carbon reduction appraisal advisory services. He enjoys lecturing in Transport Planning at London South Bank University, supporting young professionals, and is a keen advocate of the TPS PDS scheme. His 25+ years of professional experience include working for Transport for London (TfL) where he delivered planning assessments of airport, autonomous vehicle, active travel and light rail schemes and assisted in delivering events including London Olympics and Tour de France. Chris has also worked for the European Union (EU) as a technical expert and was transport lead for a UK Foreign Office Climate Change initiative in China.
Laura Putt is a Principal Transport Planner at Transport for London, working in the City Planning Directorate. She contributes to business case development and impact assessments of schemes to support Good Growth. She has experience of research, monitoring and policy focusing on making best use of data and analysis to understand travel behaviour, for example Mini-Holland active travel areas. For 2021, Laura starts a new role as Vice Chair. She previously supported TPS Regions & Nations representatives and delivered Events including Europe's first ever Transport Planning Unconferences.
Lucy is Technical Lead for Walking and Cycling at Metis, a consultancy providing highways design and sustainable drainage expertise for Transport for London and a range of authorities.
She is Vice-chair of ICE's Active Travel Community of Practice, a member of the Department for Transport’s Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Group, and was on the DfT's Expert Steering Group for the national cycle design guidance (Local Transport Note 1/20).
She provides policy, planning and design advice on walking, cycling, urban design, traffic and road danger reduction to authorities across London and the UK. Her key area of interest is designing roads suitable for children, the disabled and older people.
Lucy regularly speaks at conferences, provides walking and cycling design training, and is a guest lecturer on the Transport Planning MSc at the University of Westminster.
Isabelle is Head of Station Capacity Planning in Network Rail based in London. She coordinates Network Rail's TPS Professional Development Scheme and is a trained PDS mentor.
She joined Network Rail in 2008 after having worked in transport planning consultancy for 5 years beforehand.
As one of the first few who achieved TPP status through the senior route in 2009, Tom has been an active promotor of the Transport Planning Society and the Chartered Transport Planning Professional accreditation, for example as Reviewer and as PDS Mentor. He has also regularly organised and spoken at TPS events.
Tom has organised the annual Modelling World conference since 2006, and is a member of DfT’s Joint Analysis Development Panel. He is an editor of the Transportation journal, and an assessor for Innovate UK. Tom is employed as Regional Director UK & Europe at Veitch Lister, and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds.
Alexis has worked as a transport planner in various roles since 2006, and currently leads a Transport Development Management team at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council providing transport advice on planning applications. He recently led work on a series of masterplanning exercises across BCP, and was instrumental in developing BCP Council’s Parking Standards SPD.
Alexis is also a chartered member of the RTPI, and is very active in the South West region. He is currently the RTPI South West Junior Vice Chair and editor of Branchout.
Rose is a transport planning and policy officer at Islington Council, currently leading on the monitoring and benefits realisation of their street space programme. She recently received a distinction for her MSc in Global Energy and Climate Policy at SOAS (CISD), and was a TPS bursary finalist for the climate crisis topic, producing a research paper on monitoring carbon emissions. Equitably tackling climate change through sustainable and inclusive transport, and raising the profile of the profession amongst children and young people, are her main areas of expertise and interest.
Harry is the RTPI’s Infrastructure Specialist, focusing specifically upon transport and energy infrastructure. He manages the RTPI’s Transport Planning Network and has led on research ranging from digital engagement to Green Growth Boards. Harry has previously worked in strategy and communications consultancy with a specialisation in nationally significant infrastructure projects and transport planning. He holds an MA in International Political Economy and a BA in Politics, Policy and Economics from the University of Birmingham.
Howard was elected to the TPS Board in its early days and was subsequently asked to represent the ICE. Howard is a Fellow of the ICE and vice chair of its national Transport Expert Panel, as well as a chartered town planner. He was the chief officer responsible for transport planning and engineering at the London Docklands Development Corporation. He is now Chairman of the Stratford Transport Implementation Group (Stratford City and the Olympic Park) and the Green Light Group (promoting implementation of road pricing).
Katherine Agong is a lead Transportation Planner and Transportation Engineer. She helps public and private sector organisations by applying techniques for analysing and resolving traffic and transport problems. Katherine is a graduate of Edinburgh Napier University where she attained a Masters degree in Transport Planning and Engineering. She is a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (UK) and she was the first woman in Wales to do so in 2007. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (UK). She graduated from the University of the West Indies with an honours degree double majoring in Geography and Geology.
Katherine has worked for over 20 years in the Transportation Engineering sector. Katherine is also a Research Assistant in The University of the West Indies Department of Civil and Engineering and PhD researcher in the field of shared mobility, informal transit in the urban environment with a keen interest on how transport policy affects women, health and persons with disabilities.
Keith was Director of the MTRU consultancy and has over 30 years’ experience as a transport planner in a wide range of roles. A previous Chair of the TPS, he has been leading on policy issues including “Agenda for Change”. In July 2015 he became TPS Director of Skills.
Jim Morey is a freelance consultant engineer / planner who specialises in highways, transport and travel accessibility for persons with any kind of reduced mobility or access need.
Jim has spent over 30 years working (initially as a technician and then as an engineer) for a range of private consultancies and local authorities.
He has an MSc in Transport Planning & Engineering from the University of Southampton.
Jonathan is a researcher at the Centre for Transport and Society, UWE Bristol. His research and publications have included autonomous vehicles and their interactions with pedestrians and cyclists, as well as looking at aspects of street design, with a particular focus on side road junctions, including projects with Sustrans, Transport Scotland and the Road Safety Trust. He is on the Executive Committee of the Bristol Walking Alliance and through Scientists for Cycling is on the Scientific Committee for Velo-city, hosted by Lisbon in 2021.
Jonathan has an MSc in Transport Planning from the University of the West of England.
Jo is the Founder and Chief Executive of JFG Communications, a consultancy specialising in stakeholder engagement, political communications and diversity for the transport industry. As a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), Jo is a transport professional and public affairs professional in equal measure. Recognised among the top 100 most influential women in Westminster, Jo has 18 years of experience in helping companies engage their stakeholders, build advocacy about what they do, and inform and influence public policy. Jo oversees the Business Development Manager Contract with TPS.
Sarah is Head of Marketing and Operations at JFG Communications, a consultancy specialising in stakeholder engagement, political communications and diversity for the transport industry. As co-ordinator of the TPS Business Development Manager contract, Sarah is responsible for working with the various sub-committees including Communications, Policy and Membership, as well as providing news, job and event updates to the website and liaising with Stakeholder and Business Directory members.
