Travel Time - What's It Worth?
Expenditure on transport schemes has been justified largely on the basis that people place a monetary value on time saved in travelling, to the extent that it accounts for about 80% of the monetised benefits of major road schemes. But how do we use this time and do we value that time in the way that models assume? If not, then does this affect the type of schemes we should be implementing?
Come along to this important debate on Monday 9th February at The Council Room, Institutiion of Civil Engineers, One Great George Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3AA.
Refreshments at 6.30pm with the event 7.00 - 8.30pm.
David Metz from the University of London Centre for Transport Studies has laid down a fundamental challenge to conventional transport economic analysis in his paper 'The Myth of Travel Time Saving' and his book 'Limits to Travel'.
Hugh Gunn from HGA Ltd and Napier University Transport Research Institute is an independent specialist in research on the value of time and travel time budgets and will bring his response to that challenge.
This debate is on issues fundamental to the work of the transport planning profession. So come along and take part!
