1830 in Room B2, Merchiston Campus, Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh, EH10 5DT.

Since the mid-1980’s Britain has seen the most radical changes in Europe in the regulatory and institutional arrangements for public transport –   bus, tram, metro and rail – which differ between London and the rest of Britain.

How successful has all this been?  What are the measures of success?  What objectives should they be trying to satisfy – efficiency, commercial, economic, public interest, urban development/quality of life, environmental?

Dr David Quarmby CBE will offer a critical examination of how well today’s arrangements score against these different objectives. He will also examine whether reforming the way our roads are provided, managed and improved and funded can offer similar benefits.

Dr David Quarmby CBE is Chairman, the RAC Foundation, Chairman, the Transport Research Institute, Edinburgh Napier University, Past Chairman, Strategic Rail Authority and Docklands Light Rail.
