Transport Planning Day lecture, Dublin 13 Nov

In July of this year, Amsterdam delivered two major transport projects – ‘De Entrée’ public realm improvement/traffic removal scheme in the Centraal Station area and the North/South Metro line.

Both projects have clear parallels to current transport schemes planned in Dublin, in light of the recent An Bord Pleanála decision regarding College Green and the continued development of the MetroLink proposals.

This Transport Planning Society event examines the planning and delivery of both these projects.

• Peter Mooij, project manager at GemeenteAmsterdam (city council) will explain how De Entrée has enabled an enhanced pedestrian and cycling environment, as well as maintaining tram operations – all challenges that must be met at College Green.
• Pelle de Wit, the commissioning manager at Gemeente Amsterdam and Gerard Shreffrahn, managing consultant at ATOsborne will present on the North/South line, the newest addition to the Amsterdam Metro system. They will give a history of the project and cover its transition from design and construction to operation, maintenance and management. How planners overcame challenges such as protecting historic buildings, gaining approvals from all levels of government and financial compensation measures will be addressed, all of which are particularly relevant to Dublin as it embarks on the Metro Link project.
