This event will be hosted by TPS chair Mark Frost and will include a presentation by former TPS Chair and Transport Planner of the Year 2021, Stephen Bennett.

Stephen will reflect on the challenges of the pandemic for the transport sector and what hope we can take from the emerging post-pandemic world.

There will also be opportunities for questions and discussion following the presentation.

Speaker

Stephen Bennett, Director (Transport Consulting), Arup

Stephen is a chartered Transport Planner and Director of Arup’s transport consulting team based in London. He has a particular specialism in developing multi-modal transport strategies and delivering major transport projects and programmes.

Stephen has worked in global cities such as Hong Kong, Dubai and London and has applied his knowledge and experience in smaller regional towns and cities within the UK. Regardless of the location, he has always found that efficient and connected transport systems are critical to supporting communities with sustainable growth and creating better places for all.

Stephen is currently focusing on decarbonisation of transport systems and how this can be achieved to reach net zero targets. As part of this, he led the production of a recent publication titled - 'You’ve declared a climate emergency… Next steps: Transport', which provides practical advice for local authorities in their response to climate change.

Stephen was also Chair of the Transport Planning Society from 2019-2021. In this role, he founded the Transport Planning day campaign, which celebrates the transport planning profession, and worked on the 'State of the Nations: Transport Planning for a sustainable future' report.
