Join us for a virtual event where we'll delve into the challenges and opportunities of urban freight logistics.
With reducing the dominance of motorised traffic in urban areas on everyone’s agenda, urban freight has never been more of a question in our towns and cities. In this session, join us to explore the practicalities of how we can enable clean and efficient urban freight – what levers are actually available and what is the most useful approach?
Fiona leads Steer’s work in freight strategy and planning and has more than 15 years’ experience in researching, implementing and evaluating transport initiatives which encourage best use of the transport network’s capacity and help to create more liveable communities and places. She is passionate about understanding the detail of how everything from Amazon packages to baguettes get from A to B, on time and just in time.
Fiona advised the National Infrastructure Commission on their Future of Freight study and since then has worked with a range of public and private sector clients on how to make freight and servicing activity in businesses, streets and boroughs cleaner, safer and more efficient. She is currently working with Transport for the West Midlands to support them in understanding the opportunities for managing the freight flows within and through the region.
Having a degree in Town Planning, Ian worked for 18 years in the logistics industry on a range of third-party contracts and at Transport for London for 11 years, where he was responsible for the programme encouraging operators and businesses to revise delivery activity during the 2012 Games. As Head of the TfL freight team he then managed programmes to address truck safety, retiming and consolidating deliveries, and developing a more strategic approach to urban freight activity.
He is now a director at Future City Logistics, an independent consultancy that works to create safer, cleaner and more efficient freight and logistics, in partnership with cities, businesses, operators and academia. Ian is a member of the Transport Planning Society, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Chair of CILT’s Freight and Logistics Policy Group and an advisor to the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight and Smart Freight Centre.
