Job Summary

AECOM’s UK&I Consulting business is a leader in the development of transportation solutions across the UK&I. We work with a broad mix of private developers, technology companies, and the public sector (UK Local Authorities, national bodies) plus the European Union and national governments across Europe. Our current portfolio of opportunities comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international transportation opportunities.

We are recruiting a Bid Manager to work closely with the UK&I Consulting business, based in one of our many locations Birmingham, St Albans, Leeds or other offices across the UK. This person will take ownership of and lead bids, developing requirements from client intelligence and issued bid documents. They will be charged with driving bid strategy, devising a bid programme, agreeing key deliverables, managing inputs from Subject Matter Experts, our internal Finance and Risk Committees, and driving progress through to successful submission. The Bid Manager will work collaboratively with all parties involved in work winning, including technical leads, members of other parts of the business, bid writers, graphic designers and other bid professionals.

The Bid Manager will drive the bid through all stages, from capture management and win strategy development, through the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) and proposal submission to interview/presentation preparation and debrief sessions. They will provide consistency through the entire process, responsible for sharing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement in our process and bidding efforts. The role will report to the UK&I Consulting Work Winning Director.

Job Duties:

  • Promote a culture of collaboration, positivity and success, driving a winning strategy

  • Oversee reviews of the quality and commercial content

  • Gather essential client information from the Strategy & Growth / Marketing / CAM teams. Drive the process to research the client’s aspirations and share this knowledge and intelligence with the team

  • Promote the use of AECOM’s work winning processes and tools

  • Identify bid training requirements for team members

  • Develop the requirements for each bid in a clear and easy-to-understand way

  • Manage and maintain version control for bid documents and issue them to the appropriate functions for response/review/signature in line with the bid programme

  • Instil a culture where others share knowledge, insights and learning

  • Support the strategy director and drive professionalism and efficiency on all bids worked on.

  • Promote the development of (a) people and (b) the behaviour and culture necessary to win, including supporting junior colleagues to develop their bidding skills

  • Train teams to prepare for client interviews and presentations

Specific Skills Required:

  • A strong communicator with a flexible range of communication styles

  • Able to evaluate, monitor and present ideas and data

  • Analytical with solid organisational skills, scheduling and prioritising activities

  • A flexible but methodical approach to supporting bids and business development activities across the UK & Ireland

  • Able to lead a team, creating and sustaining inspiration, energy and focus

  • Demonstrates flexibility and strong multi-tasking

  • Comfortable and effective when working across all levels of an organisation, from apprentice through to Board level director

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in the management of winning bids, preferably in the engineering, architecture, consulting environment

  • Lead an effective bid team, identify and brief contributors from across the business and manage, motivate and support them throughout the programme

  • Facilitate workshops/planning meetings including working with key proposal contributors to establish a clear win strategy and develop storyboard content

  • Take accountability for and manage the compliance of the submission

  • Identify and share lessons learned as inputs to the continuous improvement of AECOM’s bidding process and tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree (desirable).

  • Foundation-level APMP (Association of Proposal Management Professionals) certification (desired)

  • Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign
