About the Opportunity

Our Transport Planning team is one of the most successful in the UK & Ireland, with a varied client base and strong pipeline of work, alongside supporting further project teams across the globe.

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our Streets and Networks teams with proven expertise in active travel, streets design, traffic engineering and local junction design/modelling. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate technical experience designing, modelling and appraising active travel, transformational placemaking and traffic management solutions in a client facing role, acting as Technical Lead or Project/Task Manager. 

You will have the support of a line manager and our experts to guide your progress and will have on opportunity to share your skills and knowledge by training and supporting our junior staff. You will also be given the ability to pursue relevant business and technical training to support your career development as well as the freedom to grow your network and develop innovative solutions to chase new opportunities.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • A creative, solution-oriented individual, with a strong technical background, solid understanding of streets / traffic engineering first principles and demonstrable experience
  • In-depth knowledge / understanding of local junction modelling software (local network/ microsimulation), data requirements and/or the interpretation of modelling results
  • Experience providing technical leadership, successfully managing projects and acting in a client-facing capacity
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely
  • Flexibility to manage diverse workload, assist with new business opportunities and embrace emerging technologies, product solutions and the future evolution of the industry

Ideally, here’s what you’ll also have:

  • Broader transport planning experience, with understanding of wider policy and strategy, assessment and appraisal techniques
  • Experience, leading the design and modelling of Healthy Streets, active travel, public transport, junction improvement or place-making schemes
  • Knowledge of local and national design standards, guidance and good practice (DMRB, TSRGD, LCDS, MfS2, Traffic Signs Manual)
  • Experience with Junctions 9, LinSig and VISSIM software packages
  • Line management and technical mentoring experience
  • Education/ Qualifications
  • Bachelor and higher qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
  • Chartered Engineer / Transport Planner or working towards Chartered status with membership of a relevant professional institution.
