Analytical Assurance Specialist
Job Description
IRC2132474
Analytical Assurance Specialist
Network Rail runs, maintains and develops Britain's rail infrastructure (tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings and many key stations), with our rail network being the fastest growing and safest in Europe.
System Operator provides industry-wide coordination of activities required to optimise overall use of the rail network, for the benefit of everyone who uses it. We shape tomorrow's railway to meet the long-term needs of the rail industry, its users, funders and stakeholders by understanding what the future requirements of the railway are and planning for the long term. This is essential for the company to secure funding needed to effectively manage and develop the network.
A wide range of numerical analysis is undertaken across the Central Business Functions and Routes Organisations as evidence to inform critical business decisions. Analytical assurance is needed to ensure the integrity of the analytical output, that the approach is robust to challenge, and that decisions are supported with an appropriate understanding of the evidence, risks, and remaining uncertainties. This role involves supporting the teams both undertaking and commissioning analysis, to understand and apply appropriate and proportionate analytical assurance. The team provides onward assurance to the Board and DfT on how well the company is discharging its analytical assurance policy.
Typical tasks
- To provide expert advice and deliver training to a range of internal customers and stakeholders;
- To manage, review, evaluate and improve Network Rail’s register of Business Critical Analytical Models;
- To support the Analytical Assurance Manager in giving assurance to the Board and to the Department for Transport on the extent of compliance with Network Rail’s Analytical Assurance policy and with the recommendations of the Macpherson report on the quality assurance of analytical models in government;
- To manage the Analytical Assurance element of the management assurances process (GALP) to facilitate the identification and reporting of feedback, issues and risks.
Essential
- Degree in a numerate subject, such as Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent experience;
- Strong analytical skills, with experience of analytical modelling, including project management of complex analytical modelling work;
- In-depth knowledge of best practice principles for analytical modelling;
- Demonstrable practical experience of analytical assurance in complex analytical projects;
- Good appreciation of risks in the use of analytical models in decision making;
- Good presentation and communication skills including the ability to explain technical issues to a non-technical audience;
- Proven ability to rapidly form productive relationships with, and influence, internal and external stakeholders at up to and including senior management level.
Desirable
- Experience of analytical assurance in the public sector;
- Knowledge of the railway sector;
- Experience of developing corporate policy and training materials.
