Assistant Transport Planner (Modelling & Appraisal) - Woking

Mouchel Consulting are currently looking to recruit an Assistant Transport Planner in Modelling & Appraisal to join their existing team.
This post is based in the Woking Office where we have a large Transport Planning tem offering a wide range of services to public and private sector clients. The team deals with strategic and micro-modelling, scheme appraisal, development planning, business cases, parking strategy and a variety of related topics.
The requirement for this role is to provide technical support to Transport Planning and modelling projects, using Excel, Word and bespoke Transport Planning software.
You will have some initial experience in Transport Planning and Modelling & Appraisal, and have good numeracy and communication skills.
Role Specific Responsibilities:
• Downloading, extracting, manipulating and analysing traffic dataCalculation recording and checkingUse of bespoke software such as MapInfo, COBALT, QUADRO, SATURN, Paramics, TUBA, VISSIM etc.• Extracting, downloading and presenting other data (e.g. geometry, accidents, bus routes)• Deliver to agreed personal targets• Deliver technical inputs to required quality, cost and time• Prepare high quality technical notes• Keep up to date with developments in areas of professional expertise• Actively contribute towards other duties across the Business Unit e.g. Health & Safety, quality training, Client feedback etc.• Engage with more senior members of staff to confirm scope of work, timescales and budget expectations• Resolve problems or issues under supervision, to support the delivery of projects• Maintain effective working relationships with team members.

• You should have some experience in a combination of software packages from the following: SATURN, TUBA, COBALT, QUADRO, S-Paramics, VISSIM• Experience of the following would also be advantageous: MapInfo, MyRIAD, traffic surveys, data analysis• You should have knowledge of UK Transport Planning guidance.• Proven ability of working within a team environment• Proficient in use of Excel and Word and understand / have experience of macros etc.• Highly numerate with strong problem solving skills• Proven capability to communicate clearly• Ability to work under minimal supervision• Numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering or a related subject is essential• MSc in Transport Planning is desirable• Should have commenced on path to Chartered Professional (CEng, TPP or CMILT) status.
