Transport Planning - Principal Consultant

Job Description

Wood is seeking to expand and develop its existing successful Transport Planning and Engineering section based upon significant increase in demand in its services within these areas and the opening of our new City Central Birmingham office.  We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to fit within its existing structure to support and assist with both developing the Transport Planning and Engineering business and managing a developing and keen team.  

The role represents an excellent opportunity to further progress your career within an award winning and fast growing planning and environmental consultancy.  Key private and public sector clients include The Crown Estate, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Homes and Communities Agency, power companies and a wide range of Government Agencies, Local Authorities and private sector Clients, including housebuilders and commercial developers. 

You will undertake work at the global, national, regional and local level, often as part of large multi-disciplinary project teams.  The workload is extremely varied covering all aspects of the transport agenda, the role will be primarily focused upon delivery of a varied size of projects from inception through to delivery. 

As a member of the team you will be involved in the handling of internal and external client relationships and the preparation of proposals and bids appropriate to your grade.  You will also guide and review the work of less experienced staff.

 

 

Skills/ Experience

You will have experience of several of the following:

  • Strong background in development planning;
  • Management of small to medium sized projects and monitoring of budgets and resources;
  • Technical knowledge of the development of highway schemes from inception to delivery including both preliminary and detail designs;
  • Transport Modelling (proficiency of Junctions 9 etc.);
  • Forecasting the effects of new developments and devising strategies to cater for trips generated (proficiency of TRICS, etc.)
  • Preparation of fee proposals and PQQ’s
  • Experience in section 38, section 106 and sections 278 agreements;
  • Knowledge of appropriate standards (DMRB, MfS etc.);
  • Experience of public consultations;
  • Knowledge of preparation of specifications and contract documents; and
  • Knowledge of NRSWA and other traffic management issues.

Typically, we would expect someone to have around five to ten years experience to have the skills and knowledge required to undertake this role successfully.

Degree qualified in a subject such as Transport Planning, Traffic / Highway Engineering, Civil Engineering, Planning, Geography, Maths or other relevant qualification.
