Transport Planning/Highway Engineering Consultant

Job Description

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Transport Planning / Highway Engineering Consultant to be based in our Shrewsbury office, to expand and develop its existing successful Transport Planning team based on a significant increase in demand for its highway engineering services. Key private and public sector clients include: The Crown Estate, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Homes and Communities Agency, National Grid and a wide range of Local Authorities and private developers. The workload is varied covering all aspects of the transport agenda. 

Key Responsibilities

You will be working with and supporting a wide range of Project Managers across the business and within different technical disciplines, ensuring effective project delivery at each stage and that the needs of external clients are met. With guidance, you will be expected to manage your own workload ensuring tasks are delivered on time and to budget and you will also lead and review the work of junior members of staff. As well as providing support to Bid Managers in the preparation of proposals and tenders and prepare bids appropriate to your grade for review.

  • Preparation of Transport Assessments and use of ARCADY, PICADY, TRANSYT and LINSIG
  • Preliminary highway design
  • Network modelling: multi-modal, traffic and micro-simulation models
  • Sustainable transport projects
  • Development control and regeneration projects
  • Preparation of Environmental Statements and Construction Traffic Management Plans

Role Requirements:

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Transport Planning, Engineering, Town Planning, Geography, or a related discipline
  • You will have previous experience in transport planning or a related discipline
  • You should be able to demonstrate an ability to work to deadlines, undertake effective report writing, data management and research and a flexible attitude to work as part of a team.
  • Working towards Chartership or Incorporated status
  • Must possess a full driving licence

 Experience in some or all of the following is essential:

  • Preparation of Transport Assessments, including junction modelling
  • Sustainable transport projects, including preparation of Travel Plans
  • Preliminary highway design and use of AutoCad
  • Development control and regeneration projects
  • Preparation of Environmental Statements and Construction Traffic Management Plans
  • Management of small sized projects
  • Knowledge of appropriate standards (DMRB etc), NRSWA and other traffic management issues
