We are looking for two roles:

  • Freight Policy Lead
  • Freight Systems Lead

YOUR TEAM

The role would be based in our Transport Planning team across the UK supporting WSP’s transport activities across government clients, including Local Authority contracts, Sub-National Transport Bodies, National Government, eg DfT, National Highways and Network Rail, national frameworks, city regions, and private sector companies and operators, as appropriate.

We specialise in providing transport planning solutions from initial concepts, through planning to full implementation. In doing so, we provide high level advice to clients on transport related planning and feasibility issues relating to strategy, policy and project/scheme development through to successful business case, supporting major schemes, delivering transport advice for a range of clients. Key areas of work are across a large range of major and local projects that involve or relate to Freight and Logistics, including Public Transport and Mass Transit projects, Net Zero and decarbonisation, Behaviour change and demand management, highways, parking and road user charging, Future Mobility, Energy and Rail, Local Transport Plans, and Strategy and plan development.

Your new role, what's involved?:

  • Helping deliver our Freight and Logistics Growth Strategy
  • Manging and assisting with key aspects of projects with existing and new clients;
  • Supporting the delivery of studies and projects;
  • Involvement in winning new work and ensuring client care; and
  • Undertaking Freight and Logistics activities for a range of studies, strategies and projects.

Freight and Logistics is a key workstream within our transport business across all our clients. Key elements to the roles are:

Freight Policy Lead:

  • Development of LTP freight strategy
  • Business case development of Freight measures and enablers 
  • Freight industry bodies, stakeholder engagement
  • Strong contacts within freight industry bodies. 

eFreight Systems Lead:

  • Freight Asset audit and strategy
  • Application of future freight systems (HGV fleet and freight networks)
  • Freight Operator stakeholder engagement
  • Strong freight Operator Contacts

The role would involve undertaking key activities within our Freight and Logistics related growth area helping win work and deliver projects. The role would also involve collaboration with our wider teams to support growth and delivery of projects.

We'd love to hear from you if you have::

  • Knowledge of Transport projects, technical skills and experience in the freight and logistics industry;
  • Knowledge of the Transport sector and understanding of key clients and organisations;
  • Relevant education and professional qualifications (or working towards), experience in freight and logistics;
  • Effective skills to lead activities and manage projects; and
  • Technical skills relevant to the delivery of freight and logistics within projects.

Desirable Experience:

Freight Policy Lead:

  • Public sector Transport Policy background with freight experience and contacts
  • Project experience of delivering LA freight strategy 

Freight Systems Lead:

  • Fleet decarbonization strategy with operator or retailer or manufacturer.
  • Project experience of delivering a decarbonisation strategy with HGV element (e.g Large Retail or Utilities fleets)
