Although this role is Manchester based, we are open to discussing opportunities for working remotely most of the week.

The team works closely with our Transport and Infrastructure, Services, Structures and Environmental teams on larger multi-disciplinary development proposals. Regionally we operate as a wider team covering offices across the North and Scotland from Birmingham up to Edinburgh.  From time to time, opportunities also arise to work in other parts of the UK and beyond.

Key tasks will include:

  • Delivering transport projects which require knowledge and understanding of junction and network design and operation, as part of a flexible team to suit the requirements of each project.
  • Producing and reviewing transport assessments, local plan transport evidence and  overseeing the review of local junction modelling outputs.
  • Overseeing the development of highway improvement options to mitigate development impact and to support local plan infrastructure planning.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key clients based upon achievement of excellence in service provision with high levels of technical competence and client satisfaction.
  • Working on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Managing discrete technical workstreams as ‘Workorder Manager’ under the guidance of the Project Manager and / or managing full Projects and project teams.
  • Working closely with junior staff to oversee the delivery tasks and projects.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • A numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning or a related subject is essential.
  • Experience of operating as a lead client contact for consultancy services and fostering of excellent relationships with Clients and co-professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear track record of presenting compelling written work in support of development proposals.
  • Knowledge of appropriate transport planning guidance and best practice.
  • Experience of delivering a wide range of transport planning projects across a number of specialist areas including development planning (preparation and review of transport assessments and travel plans), local plan transport evidence, junction design using AutoCad (priority, roundabout, signals) and knowledge of relevant standards.
  • A working knowledge of junction modelling software, for example Junctions 10 (PICADY & ARCADY) and Linsig, with sufficient experience to be able to mentor others in the use of these programmes and interpret and challenge the results returned by them.
  • A high level of numeracy with strong problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
  • Experience of team management responsibilities including line management and day-to-day operations.

You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to work as part of a team or individually. An enthusiasm for and genuine interest in Transport Planning is essential to allow a close fit with our highly motivated team. We are looking for someone who is able to develop as the team grows as part of our exciting opportunity to grow our Transport Planning team.

The following skills/qualifications are desirable:
