Your new role, what's involved?

 

  • Delivering and evaluating active travel and sustainable mobility projects. These will vary in both scale and nature, making for a varied workload and being active on multiple projects at any given time;
  • Assisting with developing proposals and bids for future work;
  • Project management of smaller projects and collaborative team working on larger projects;
  • Helping train and mentor the annual intake of new graduates and apprentices into the team.

 

YOUR TEAM

The Basingstoke Transport team has twenty plus members of all grades/levels of experience. We are a friendly team that promotes flexible working.

We work for both the private and public sector ranging from private house builders to local authorities to National Highways and the Department for Transport.

WSP Transport are excited to have been recently successful in being awarded the Active Travel England and Inspections Framework for the Department for Transport.

Locally, we have experts in Active Travel, Net Zero and Business Cases as well as Development Planning, Development Management and Transport Policy. There are great opportunities to get involved in projects in all these skill areas and also with like minded teams within Transport across the UK.

This role is based in either the Southampton or Basingstoke office

 

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

 

  • A relevant Degree (Geography, Civil Engineering, Town Planning etc);
  • Experience as a Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner with solid post graduate experience;
  • Solid written and verbal communication/presentation skills;
  • Technical competence sufficient to mentor others and share knowledge;
  • Understanding of contemporary active travel policy and scheme design guidance, and being able to convert that understanding into practical solutions for our clients;
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints;
  • Experience of management responsibilities e.g. line management or supervision of junior staff on projects.

Candidates will have technical competencies that include experience from amongst the following:

  • Developing strategic plans for active travel infrastructure, such as LCWIPs
  • Planning and forecasting tools, such as PCT and CyIPT
  • GIS tools and analysis
  • Active travel route auditing
  • Developing active travel scheme concept designs
  • Undertaking scheme appraisal and developing/supporting business cases
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication activities.
