We currently have an opportunity for a Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner to join our busy and growing Scottish Transport Planning team, based in our Glasgow office. The role would suit a transport planning with around 5 years of experience who is keen to develop and grow within an expanding team. At WSP, our client focus, and results driven approach means that we benefit from significant repeat business and are looking to strengthen the team to deliver an increasing workload. The Team undertakes a variety of transport planning support for clients throughout Scotland, including Local Authorities, Transport Scotland and the private sector. The Scotland team sits in the wider north-east regions which brings the opportunity to work on cross-region projects with colleagues in our Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool offices as well as wider UK offices. More locally, we work closely with our Highways, Structures and Environmental teams on larger multi-disciplinary projects and cross region on a mix of projects from major transport scheme appraisal to active travel design and our future mobility programme.

Your new role, what's involved?

We are seeking a Transport Planner / Senior Transport Planner to be based out of our Glasgow office:

• Being active on a number of projects/client accounts at any given time - making the workload interesting and challenging.
• Supporting the role of senior staff in managing transport planning projects through managing and delivering projects and packages.
• Working as part of a team, including the delegation of tasks, helping to maintain and grow our work in the Energy, Active Travel, and other similar transport projects.

• Working flexibly both from home and within our office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields. We are expecting colleagues to attend our offices for a minimum 3 days per week, subject to local arrangements, project and Client needs, and in support of the immediate points below.

• Day to day technical input into a variety of projects, including using technical tools, including but not limited to renewable energy transport studies, active travel studies, appraisal and business case studies, junction modelling, spreadsheets and GIS software.
• Attending internal & external client meetings.
• Working flexibly and in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields.

• Helping coach and mentor the annual intake of new graduates and apprentices into the team.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

• Experience as a Transport Planner or in a similar role in the UK, with aspirations towards professional qualification (CEng or TPP).
• A Bachelor’s degree in a related subject, or equivalent.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Energy and Renewables sector.
  • Active travel scheme appraisal and delivery.
  • Public transport at local regional and national level.
  • Transport Assessments, travel planning & EIA Transport Chapters
  • Stakeholder engagement and consultation strategieS

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations and report-writing.
• Strong team player who has an enthusiastic and motivated attitude.
• Well organised, with a structured approach to the delivery of tasks, with an ability to adapt to a varied workload within a fast-changing environment.
• Keen interest to progress your career within a supporting organisation.

The Transport team within WSP works with a wide range of local authority and private clients from across the UK. We deliver a wide range of projects including on & off-shore wind farm studies, transport contributions to Environmental Impact Assessments, bus corridor studies, transport appraisals, traffic engineering, active travel scheme development, stakeholder management, development management and development planning. The role is flexible in that we are seeking individuals with differing expertise to complement our existing team. Our portfolio of projects offers candidates variety in project work or more focused contributing to our well established expertise practice groups, where like-minded individuals can share knowledge and grow.  The role would suit an ambitious individual looking for a new opportunity within which support, and training would be provided. At WSP we work flexibly between home and office, tailored to suit individuals circumstances. Our Glasgow Office is located in the heart of the City on Queen Street, with excellent transport links, shops and café’s on our doorstep.
