Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

As a Regional Director and senior member of the Midlands Planning team, you will:

Lead a large and collaborative team to support the delivery of a diverse range of business case projects to unlock funding for a range of highway, public transport, cycling and walking, transport strategy and future mobility transport solutions. Develop external client relations to support pipeline growth and unlock new market opportunities. Actively identify and support strategic recruitment activities to enable team growth. Develop new and innovative appraisal methodological approaches to support our rapidly evolving client project needs. Provide leadership direction to clients in specifying and managing the delivery of appraisal and business case activities.

Lead project activities, taking responsibility for the technical direction and quality of the work to ensure that best practice techniques are applied consistently. Actively contribute to preparation of tender responses procured via a range of longer-term frameworks, including TfWM Transport Planning Framework, Midlands Highway Alliance, West Midlands Professional Services Framework, ESPO, West Midlands Rail Executive, National Highways Strategy and Planning Technical Partners. Take responsibility for the technical development of junior staff, providing on-the-job coaching and mentoring. Work on planning applications, strategic transport studies, business case development, Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans, electric vehicle studies and public transport strategies. Be open to working in a national context/wider business development role as needed by the wider national business.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Technical demonstrable evidence of work-winning and wider business development acumen and outcomes.
  • Experience in leading the delivery of successful funding outcomes via a range of government transport funding routes.
  • Evidenced in-depth understanding of DFT's TAG and Green Book methodologies and standards relevant to the appraisal of traditional and wider transport impacts.
  • Technical knowledge and leadership experience across a range of transport business case typologies.Proven analytical, data manipulation or statistical skills using appropriate software and proportionate statistical methods.
  • Experience in using economic analysis tools for the appraisal of transport schemes (all modes).
  • Able to direct portfolios of independent projects or workstreams to a strong technical and commercial outcome.Strong oratory, technical and report-writing skills.
  • Wider experience in areas such as transport strategy, modelling and planning.

  • Natural ability to explain complex technical concepts to others, especially our graduates and clients.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to identify and respond to new business opportunities.
  • A team player who can work as part of wider project teams across disciplines and geographies – making high-quality technical contributions. Demonstrable experience in managing and motivating other team members to meet their potential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:A degree/Masters's qualification in an analytical subject such as engineering, geography, mathematics, economics, or spatial planning from an accredited college or university or overall equivalent experience. Professional chartership, such as the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
