As a team, we work on projects that take a short- and long-term view of the rail focussed transport planning space, these include:

  • Station congestion relief and enhancement schemes
  • New station and Access for All schemes
  • Station masterplanning
  • Connectivity and interchange improvement
  • Passenger insights and data analysis
  • Strategic rail and public transport modelling and analysis

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic Station Capacity Planner/ Pedestrian modeller with at least four years’ experience who wishes to work within a high performing, dynamic team.

The successful applicant will be flexible, self-motivated, be able to work successfully as part of a team and be someone who wants to make a difference in their work and can inspire others!

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience and knowledge of pedestrian planning standards and modelling tools (particularly Legion).
  • Managed medium to large-sized projects
  • Acted as a technical lead on pedestrian modelling projects and can undertake the technical work, should this be required.
  • Evidence of upskilling, training or mentoring staff.

What does the average day look like?

As a Station Capacity Planner your role will involve:

  • Building great relationships with stakeholders across the projects you are responsible for. Being recognised as the key point of contact for major projects.
  • Creating, developing, reviewing, and auditing of pedestrian simulation models.
  • Writing, reviewing and auditing station capacity reports built upon findings from analysis and observations.
  • Producing appropriate and effective remits and proposals for customers, with regards to scope, methodology, data collection and outputs.
  •     Providing advice to our Route and Planning customers on station capacity related topics, to maximise design development and minimise project risk.
  • Representing the Passenger and Station Analysis team at relevant meetings and presenting findings to project stakeholders.
  • Working closely with project team members to deliver projects to agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Supervising and mentoring colleagues with technical analysis and generation of outputs.
  • Supporting the Passenger and Station Analysis Team Manager in the strategic direction of the team’s services.
  • Leading negotiations and challenging sponsors to balance the station capacity requirements with other project constraints, to facilitate the development of safe, future proof, commercially effective, compliant and operationally optimised stations.
  • Supporting the resourcing and management of station capacity services for the client group and projects within their work area including the management of external station capacity resources when required.

What essential skills and experiences are required?

  • Masters level in Transport Planning, or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable experience and significant knowledge of standards relating to station design, capacity and evaluation criteria in order to certify compliance of station designs.
  • Expert knowledge of pedestrian and/or transport modelling theory and methods, data collection and analytical techniques
  • Project management skills and can demonstrate experience in managing and delivering projects in pedestrian modelling to quality standards, on time, and within budget, including supervising others.
  • Awareness of innovations and technological advancements in the transport industry in order to undertake relevant research to open up application of pedestrian flow modelling/analysis tools and techniques on wider aspects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – written and verbal, including experience in report writing and preparing and presenting technical and financial proposals.

We would also like, but not essential.

  • Team leadership experience including line management and mentoring
  • Experience of delivering projects within company project management, safety health and environmental systems and processes would be advantageous
  • Understanding of the Rail Industry planning cycles and processes.
  • Experience in GIS software, Power BI, Python
