The transportation infrastructure sector in Scotland is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is leading projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including active travel initiatives,  rail upgrades as well as extensive public transport corridor enhancements. We are at the forefront of national and international policy making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting the development of cutting-edge technology in the transport sector. We are working closely with our clients to support their digital transformation and are developing new initiatives to help them deliver on their Net Zero commitments.

Atkins is going from strength to strength in Scotland and are providing a wide range of support to our clients via the Excel framework and other routes to market.  We have exciting growth plans to further expand our business in response to this pipeline of work and we are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base.  We are looking to enhance our transport planning team in Atkins’ Edinburgh office to better support our successful transport planning business and face the range of local transport opportunities that are emerging in Scotland.

The Roles:

We are recruiting an Associate Director for our Transport Planning business and would like to discuss this opportunity with prospective candidates.  We are looking for an experienced individual who wishes to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team that works seamlessly with our wider national Transport Planning business but also helps grow our business in the Scottish markets.  Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll work on flagship regeneration, development and infrastructure projects. We’re a successful team with a well-balanced blend of skills to face our client needs and are looking for an enthusiastic individual to add further value to our offer to the marketplace.  The successful candidate for this role will lead and shape the transport planning team and be responsible for securing and delivering work from local clients whilst supporting our wider project teams.

The Candidates:

Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in the following:

  • Project management and delivery.
  • Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication with strong report writing capability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines.
  • Confident team worker with ablity to work independently.
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies such as -

  • Strong technical skills and understanding of transport planning techniques.
  • Ability to develop the business and win new work.
  • Demonstrable project and people management skills.

Successful candidates will have -

  • A relevant transport planning, urban planning, geography, engineering degree or similar.
  • A passion for transportation.
  • Ideally, membership of a relevant professional institute.
