London Min: £42,466 National Min: £38,654 Retention payment of £2,000 may be available for Transport Modellers in post on 1/4/23, subject to satisfactory performance. The retention payment for all Transport Modellers in qualifying posts are non-contractual and reviewed annually.

Job description

The Department for Transport is recruiting for three Senior Modellers to work in the Roads Economics, Modelling and Evaluation and Local Regional Transport Analysis teams. Working as part of a wider team, you’ll get the opportunity to work on leading-edge, multi-criteria models and influence the both the present and future day-to-day lives of UK citizens.

This role involves working on multiple projects with policy colleagues and with National Highways, sub-national transport bodies and local authorities, in liaison with a network of analyst and other professional colleagues across the Department. You will combine strategically guiding modelling for substantial programmes of scheme and portfolio development, with advice to inform fast-paced policy work, and research to develop our evidence base in line with emerging challenges.

Responsibilities

You will:

• Provide transport modelling advice to DfT colleagues and external organisations in support of strategic and local roads business cases.

• Provide analytical assurance and review modelling in accordance with industry best practice, as well as providing value for money advice for major investment decisions.

• Establish good relationships and work with external stakeholders to develop modelling and appraisal analysis to support decision making.

• Undertake bespoke analysis to support the enhancement of modelling methods and wider DfT analytical needs.

• Commission modelling and research from external consultants, project managing their work and assuring outputs.

• Advise on specific modelling issues both to DfT customers and the external transport modelling profession.

About You

You will have a good understanding of the development and use of transport models in accordance with industry best practice and the role they play in appraisal. When managing your own time and resources, you will show the ability to be flexible, prioritise workload appropriately in what can sometimes be a rapidly changing policy environment.

In addition, you are comfortable communicating effectively, especially complex information and ideas, with the ability to adapt your presentation to a variety of audiences in an informative and engaging manner.
