Principal Consultant (Operating Costs) – Rail Advisory

Job Description

As a specialist in rail operating costs, you will be joining a highly motivated and specialist rail team at the forefront of the rail industry. We provide industry-leading advice to national and local government, private rail companies, investors and industry bodies on an extremely wide variety of influential projects from inception to delivery. This includes working closely with the government to reform the rail industry, ensuring that future industry better supports passengers, taxpayers and transport companies.

Our advice spans across long term strategy, considering the future role of rail for future generations, to shorter-term assurance, across a wide range of technical disciplines. What we'd like from you:

The successful candidate will enjoy working as part of the team and complement our existing rail offer and will be required to:

  • Advise operating cost and financial workstreams of rail contract negotiations and competitions, potentially for the DfT and the private sector
  • Provide rail technical, strategic and policy advice to clients, including DfT, Network Rail and ORR
  • Undertake technical analysis, report writing and presentations as required
  • Act as Project Manager and support business development in the UK and overseas
  • Supervise and coach junior members of the team
  • Contribute to technical discipline development activities

What you'll be great at:

  • Proven ability in leading projects to a successful conclusion
  • Understanding of the GB Rail industry
  • Experience in modelling operating costs for major rail schemes
  • Strong analytical, report writing and communication skills
  • Client facing and/or client-side experience
  • Work winning experience (desirable)
