This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a strong and accomplished Transport Planning team and to work on leading modelling projects which are at the forefront of the Transport Planning industry. As an experienced Transport Modeller, you will join a 25+ persons strong Transport Planning Team in Birmingham.

The AECOM Birmingham transport planning and modelling team is committed to solving real-world transport problems. Whether that is finding solutions to complex traffic issues on some of the UK’s largest construction projects or in delivering solutions for our local clients in the Midlands to address the impact of developments on the transport network – as we are doing across the region.

PROJECTS:

We have an exciting and extensive portfolio of projects in the Midlands for major clients including National Highways, TfWM and HS2 as well as all major local government bodies such as Solihull, Leicestershire, Wolverhampton, Buckinghamshire, etc. We undertake a wide range of services for National Highways as part of SPaTS and HESPA frameworks. Manchester Airport Group and also public transport operators in the region and we want to boost our team in terms of Traffic modelling capabilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • lead workstreams within projects with limited supervision, taking responsibility for the technical quality of the work and ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently.

  • take responsibility for the technical development of junior staff, providing on-the-job coaching and mentoring of Graduates and Technicians.

  • handle the project management of smaller projects, including cost control and client liaison.

  • assist with the specification and management of transport planning projects and programmes, provide advice and support to junior staff and assist in the development of business opportunities.

  • interpret traffic model outputs to inform development management would be desirable, with strong technical and report writing skills.

  • contribute to and attend industry events and conferences.

  • Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews.

  • Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, annexations, site plans and plats.

  • Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.

  • Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use and transportation projects.

  • Develops plans, studies and analyses on regional basis.

  • Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management, and others.

  • Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.

  • Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in transport modelling and forecasting and experience in appraisal and evaluation of transport proposals.

  • Experience in various traffic modelling skills like Microsimulation, Data Analysis, Junction Modelling, Strategic modelling.

  • Proven analytical, data manipulation or statistical skills using appropriate software like Microsoft SQL and Access.

  • Data analysis and presentation skills using Microsoft Excel, Business Intelligence (Power BI) and Tableau.

  • Programming skills using VBA, R and/or Python, C#, .NET

  • Working knowledge of software packages like SATURN, VISSIM, LinSig, Arcady, Picady, EMME, VISUM, TUBA and spreadsheet modelling.
