We currently have an opportunity for a Transport Engineer / Senior Transport Engineer to join our busy and growing South West Transport Planning team, based in either Bristol or Taunton, on a permanent basis. The role would suit an engineer with a broad understanding of the transport planning profession but with a focus on transport / traffic engineering in producing design outputs to support planning and technical submissions such as Transport Assessments.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of transportation projects from small local developments to large strategic ones and local authority support. This role will enable you to develop skills and abilities in other areas of land development and public sector work as part of our multi-disciplinary offering.
On a day to day basis, you will be responsible for supporting the technical output of our transportation project team. You will be involved in delivering concept/preliminary highway designs for a range of private and public sector projects, including residential, employment and mixed use land development projects, as well as major infrastructure and active travel, public realm and public transport investment projects and in supporting the development of access/feasibility studies requiring area wide strategies. You will liaise with clients, design teams, local authorities and the general public and will play an important role in the supervision and mentoring of junior members of the team.

You will have a degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent and hold a relevant professional membership or be looking to work towards one in the future.
You will be an experienced traffic / transport engineer with excellent technical knowledge relevant to the transport engineering field. Candidates will need to have an awareness of highway design standards including experience working to both DMRB and Manual for Streets standards in the design of link roads and minor/major junctions and broader public realm and transport movement corridor proposals. Experience and knowledge of how 3D alignments can inform concept/preliminary designs would be advantageous
Candidates should have experience of working on a range of projects from feasibility and concept/preliminary stages. In doing so they should have experience of working alongside other professionals to develop scheme designs to ensure that they are successful from a highways perspective whilst also considering the other multidisciplinary aspects of the design.
You will be a positive and enthusiastic team player who should have good communication skills to assist with resource planning and/or quality management of projects and be confident to liaise with and advise all levels of management, both internally and externally.
Whilst our teams in Taunton and Bristol are well established and will provide strong support and mentoring, the ideal candidate will be able to manage the day to day running and delivery of work with minimal supervision.
