TPS East & West Midlands - TPS Manifesto for the 2015 General Election (Sponsored by WSP)

The Transport Planning Society is currently drafting a manifesto for transport leading up to the General Election on May 7th. The idea is to create a better framework for the Society to engage with a new Government.  TPS is consulting on the opening sections now – drafts available on the website.  This meeting is a unique opportunity to provide your views for input into the manifesto for transport both at a national and local level, with questions such as:
  • Has the Scottish devolution debate opened up English cities to a transport and land use revolution?
  • Will the Government recognise in its forecasting and funding that demand management is not only effective but essential?
  •  There are plans for major spending on transport but will it achieve objectives for the economy, health, environment and carbon reductions?

The session will cover ten areas of policy, including:

*         Local rail capacity;
*         Transport and Health;
*         New Governance: combined authorities, Highways England and beyond; and
*         Travel behaviour change.

The session will be run by Board members Keith Buchan (Policy Lead), Nick Richardson (Chair of TPS) and Christopher Blake. It is very rare for the Midlands regions to have three members of the Board present at one meeting, so it will be a great opportunity to present your views for the Society’s consideration.
