We will be launching the 2014 Bursary scheme at an event on Wednesday 14 May (6pm start) at Mott MacDonald's offices in Fleet Place that will showcase three papers from last year on the theme of how can transport best support economic growth:

  •  No train, No Gain: The local economic impact of Langdon Park DLR Station - Dave Arquati
  • Will HS2 or a number of smaller investments represent better value for money? - Nick Gammer
  • Let’s Go Forward Together: Is it time for development planning stakeholders to declare war on the recession and plan a route to recovery as allies not enemies? The case of the transport sector- Emma Taylor

The event will provide an opportunity for anyone thinking of applying this year to learn from those who have benefitted from the scheme in the past and to hear about the 2014 theme.

TPS Bursary Scheme

One of the aims of the Transport Planning Society is to support the development of younger professionals.  We do this in many ways, but one of the most successful has been the annual TPS Bursaries. The scheme is designed to provide young transport planners with the opportunity and funding (usually £500) to conduct a piece of innovative and structured thinking on a topic of current relevance to transport planning. Successful applicants work with a mentor (normally a TPS Board member) to prepare a paper and present it to the TPS Board. The paper is published on the TPS website and many go on to be presented at major conferences such as the Transport Practitioners Meeting, providing the opportunity for even greater exposure for the bursary holder. Previous bursary holders have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of writing and presenting their paper and have found it to be a valuable part of their professional development. Further details are available at www.tps.org.uk/main/bursaries

We are very grateful to Mott MacDonald for hosting the event.
