TPS is pleased to announce the launch Transport Planning Day 2024.
See all the current vacancies.
Open to all those studying or working in transport planning, or related fields, on a professional basis.
Attitudes towards sustainable travel have changed. Walking, cycling or flexible working arrangements are common place, the smart phone is the communication tool of choice for a new generation, and the evidence shows car use is in decline.
If this represents the ‘peak’ of car use, then we may be living through the most momentous change in transport in a generation.
The recently announced Local Sustainable Transport Fund represents the biggest investment in Smarter Travel for a decade. The aim of this £600m funding will be to generate long term change.
But how much difference can a new generation of smarter travel interventions make to future travel patterns?
How can new information technologies combined with open data be used to ‘nudge’ travel behaviour?
Can we better integrate public transport, new shared modes, new technology, urban planning and design to ‘lock in’ the benefits of declining car use?
The Re-booting Smarter Travel supplement will feature articles from leading organisations and individuals working in sustainable travel, including the Transport Planning Society and Professor Phil Goodwin. It will be followed by an important national conference in Bristol on 6 December.
