Ian Drummond, Assistant Director, Transportation, Leicestershire County Council, was awarded the Transport Planning Society’s Transport Planner of the Year Award, at the PTRC Transport Practitioners’ Meeting in Liverpool on 17th July.
The award was made in recognition of his achievements at a challenging time for all authorities in the East Midlands and his commitment to maintaining and developing the transport planning skills which will be needed in the future.
Making the award, Keith Buchan, TPS Chair, said:
“Ian Drummond has been awarded the TPS Transport Planner of the Year in recognition of his outstanding work in helping the County Council ensure that it is properly equipped to face the increasing challenges in transport planning and provision over coming years. Despite current challenges he has championed the graduate training programme, recruiting three additional staff last year, to be trained in the full range of the County’s transport planning functions. Through his roles with the Midlands Highway Alliance and the local authority body ADEPT, Ian has also been active in promoting the need for all local authorities to plan for the future by training new talent today.”
Thanking TPS for the award, Ian said
“I am very honoured to have received this accolade from the Transport Planning Society. As the world we work in becomes increasingly complex, it is essential to plan for the future; this means training and equipping young people to be the transport planners of tomorrow. That is why I have worked to introduce the TPS professional development scheme in Leicestershire County Council. We have appointed three young graduates to the scheme and I commend it to my colleagues in all Local Transport Authorities.”
