The Event

As a result of feedback from over 1200 members across CILT expressing an interest in the travel planning arena , the Institute is pleased to be able to launch its Travel Planning Forum at Atkins’ prestigious offices in Birmingham.

Over the last 6 months the newly formed Forum Committee have been working behind the scenes to carefully think through and plan a series of forum activities. Closely aligned with the CILT Vision and the need for a fresh look at this important area of transport and logistics, we are delighted that not only Steve Agg will be present at our launch, but that younger professionals will be with us to share their vision for the future of sustainable transport.

Speaking at the event will be:

  • Jon Harris, Harris Ethical & Chairman, CILT(UK) Travel Planning Forum;
  • Steve Agg FCILT, Chief Executive, CILT(UK);
  • Emma Taylor, Sustainable Transport Consultant, Atkins;
  • Sarah Spinks and Rachel Evans, ODA Travel Advice to Business Panel Members;
  • Michelle Thurgood, Transport Specialist, BIA; and
  • Alex Elston, Head of Sales for London 2012, BT Conferencing.

Breakfast will be provided.

The Forum

The Travel Plan Forum has been set up to complement and work collaboratively with other professional bodies and associations already looking at this area. Our focus is specifically on the ‘next generation’ of travel planning – which focuses heavily on business efficiency and the marriage of freight/logistics and ‘people’ based travel planning. Our Action Plan sets out our planned activities which are designed to help support other CPD providers and to fill key gaps in provision of free or low-cost training. These events will also be open to members of other professional bodies so that we can think laterally and work synergetically.

As part of the launch, the Forum Chair, Jon Harris, will explain about the priorities of the forum for the next 6-9 months – and to outline how members can engage and get involved.  We are very encouraged to have younger professionals setting out their understanding of the ‘next generation’ of travel plans – which will have to adapt and reshape to meet current economic challenges.

A key strand of our approach is to provide on-line learning and CPD opportunities and to use video and webcasting creatively to share best practice and new ideas.
