As one of the local authorities shortlisted for a National Transport Award, managed by Transport Times, Leicestershire County Council has stated that it

“was the first local transport authority in the UK to develop a five-year graduate trainee transport planning programme, leading to a Transport Planning Professional qualification endorsed by the Transport Planning Society – equivalent to chartered engineer.”

The County’s graduate development programme is based on the TPS Professional Development Scheme, and those now following it include three new members of staff recruited to join the programme.

At the end of October, Leicestershire is hosting a meeting of the local authority members of the Midlands Highways Alliance, focussed on its graduate programme for transport planners and the TPP qualification.
