New Sustainable Travel Award now open for entries

TPS members who have helped create effective and innovative local travel schemes such as cycling and walking programmes, travel plans and marketing of sustainable transport, may be interested in a new award which has invited applications. The new 2012 Eurostar Ashden Award for Sustainable Travel will consider these and other schemes/programmes in selecting its first winners.

The award is open to organisations in the UK, France and Belgium that are leading the way in delivering sustainable local travel and carbon savings through behaviour change, innovation and technology.

Schemes/programmmes should have been operating for at least one year and do one or more of the following:

  • enable greater use of non-car options for travel, such as walking, cycling and public transport
  • encourage more efficient use of the car
  • deliver overall reductions in travel energy demand through behavioural measures
  • showcase an effective combination of technological and behavioural measures to encourage more sustainable travel

Winners benefit from up to £20,000 in prize money and ongoing support to develop and promote their sustainable local travel project. This package of benefits includes: organisational support to help develop the scheme; introductions to potential funders, policymakers and others working in the field; a short, broadcast quality film about the winning work; substantial media coverage.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 25 October 2011.
