Shaping Future Transport: Open Lecture Series 2011
The pressures on the transport system have never been greater. Congestion in major cities is at record levels, air quality problems persist in our major cities and the transport sector is struggling to reduce its
contribution to climate change. Coupled with this there are huge financial pressures which have seen real term cuts in the infrastructure budget and even bigger cuts in the money available to support activities such as local bus services, speed management initiatives and behaviour change campaigns. How should transport professionals negotiate their way through the current short-term constraints to deliver a long-term sustainable transport system?
A new open lecture series for 2011 will examine this challenge, by taking a closer look at a range of topical issues. Delivered as a partnership between academics at ITS and expert transport practitioners, each event
will have an academic perspective followed by a practitioner response.
Time and place: Each lecture will start at 6pm, with refreshments available from 5.30pm. The lectures will take place at Leeds University Business School, with the exception of 13th April, which will be held at METRO offices in Leeds.
