For our summer social this year, and inspired by Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May, we are organizing our very own Race Across London.
To make it easier to take part though, you can choose where to start from, and knowing the preferences of most of our members, the finishing point is a pub rather than an airport!
We’ve chosen a pub that isn’t too close to a tube station, and isn’t too far from a ferry pier so we hope that will even up the modes a little and encourage you to take some alternative routes.
So, here’s how it works:
- Organise a group and decide where you are going to start from (most likely the front door of your office, although you might want to start in a pub somewhere!). You don’t have to start in Central London, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start in Croydon, or Epsom, or Woking.
- Download the form here fill in your team details and email it to wheway@itpworld.net
- Decide who is going to use which mode (so if you had a group of four, there might be one walking, one cycling, one on the bus, and one on the tube). If you have more than four, then somebody might want to drive, or run, or take a taxi, or use the river service, or a motorcycle, or a different bus route, or a skateboard or a pogo stick. Its entirely up to you!
- On the day of the event, all leave at the same time, and aim to reach the Cross Keys pub between 1845 and 1915. The Cross Keys is located at 1 Lawrence Street, SW3 5NB
- When you arrive at the pub, check in with the official time recorders
- Get yourself a drink and prepare to welcome your colleagues, compare times and share your stories with other groups
- We will quickly analyse the journey times and establish who travelled the quickest, the slowest and the furthest, and establish whether Top Gear’s conclusion that the bike is the quickest way of getting across London, is really true!
And if you can’t join the race, just join us at the pub!
