Northern Ireland’s Road Service’s Director of Engineering, R J M Cairns, has announced that the Road Service now recognises the TPP qualification as 'similar to Chartered Engineer status' for contracts requiring transport planning services.

The description of Senior Transport Planners in South East Pan-Government Collaborative Highways Professional Services Framework for Local Transport Plan Delivery, prepared by Hampshire County Council, are those:
'having attained Transport Planning Professional (TPP) status and/or an MSc in a Transport Planning course.  Membership of a relevant Transport Planning institution (eg TPS, IHT, CILT).  Alternatively membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) along with evidence of work on similar projects with comparable complexity and level of responsibility.'

Martin Richards, TPS Director of Skills said 'this is really good news for transport planners.  Transport Scotland already recognises the qualification and we are hoping that DfT, the Highways Agency and other major public sector organisations will soon follow the lead of these devolved administrations and England’s south eastern counties.'
