The Northwest Regional Strategy will be a new and clear strategic investment framework for the region with an overall goal of producing an agreed strategy for the region which will guide action and investment by Business, National and Local Government and the Voluntary and Community Sectors. The Strategy builds on experience gained in the process of developing the Regional Economic Strategy 2006, the Regional Spatial Strategy, Partial Review and the Regional Housing
Strategy. It will provide a unique opportunity to bring together regional spatial, economic, social and environmental strategies, and build a new long term vision for the region.
The Transport Act 2000 introduced a statutory requirement for local transport authorities to produce a Local Transport Plan (LTP) every five years. In July 2009, the Department for Transport issued the new Local Transport Plan 3 guidance which will be in place by April 2011. The guidance aims to provide authorities with greater flexibility to produce a plan which best meets its individual needs and is within the DaSTS framework.
This event will examine the links between the new Regional Strategy and Local Transport Plan 3 Guidance with a specific focus on what this means for the North West region.
The Highways Agency will also provide a presentation detailing their role in the planning process and the close working relationship they have developed with a wide range of stakeholders at both regional and local levels to ensure national aims and objectives can be aligned and met.
