The Local Transport Act (2008) has placed new requirements on local transport planners to respond to climate change. Under the new Act, local transport authorities must have regard to Government policies and guidance on climate change adaptation.

Consequently, the Local and Regional Adaptation Partnership Board (LRAP), a collection of local and regional bodies supported by Defra, funded a project to develop thinking about how local transport can adapt to climate change.

In June 2009 TPS, the UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP) and the Nottingham Declaration Partnership hosted a workshop in London called Local transport - adapting to climate change. It brought together transport officers from around the country to discuss how local transport needs to respond to the impacts of climate change.

The briefing and workshop summary are in our online Library and can be found here
