Book now for day three (24 October) of the Global Engineering Congress (GEC).   Join this free-to-attend evening lecture, on Transport and Land use Integration to Reduce Energy Consumption and Emissions, organised in collaboration with The Transport Planning Society (TPS).

The lecture will explore the role of integrated transport and land use planning in reducing travel demand and minimising its negative impacts, and the policies and planning tools required.

The Transport Planning Society recently published a set of principles stressing the importance of managing demand by working with spatial planners to minimise the need for movement of people or goods, and supporting options that encourage the least damaging alternatives.

The session will be chaired by Keith Buchan, TPS Skills Director, with time for a panel debate and audience questions.

Speakers

Ewa Kmietowicz, Committee on Climate Change, will present scenarios for emissions reduction and the role of transport demand.

Martin Tedder, Transport for London, will present the recent Mayor’s Transport Strategy and draft London Plan as an example of transport and land use integration.

Steve Melia, University of West England, will discuss how energy and emissions from transport demand can be reduced further, and reflect on the role that integrated transport and land use planning has to play.

The lecture will also include a panel debate and time for audience questions. Delegates will have the opportunity to network and continue the discussions  in the ICE Cafe Bar.
