The MSc Transport Engineering and Planning at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has been confirmed as meeting the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) knowledge requirements by the TPP Professional Standards Committee.
The TPP qualification recognises the high levels of skill and experience of transport planners and is jointly awarded by the Transport Planning Society and Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. Candidates must demonstrate their competence in a broad range of professional and technical transport planning skills.
The MSc Transport Engineering and Planning has been running at UWE since 2014 and a number of alumni from the course have gone on to achieve Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP). Retaining the approval means graduates can take the Standard Route to TPP through a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) and Professional Review without having to go through the initial stage of submitting a Portfolio of Technical Knowledge (PTK).
Successful candidates can register as Chartered Transport Planning Professionals (CTPP), recognising their professional achievement against this distinguished benchmark.
Nick Ruxton-Boyle, Chair of the TPP Professional Standards Committee said, “We continue to be impressed with the course and how it prepares students in emerging themes such as data and climate change for their transport planning roles in the public and private sector, and continuing their career development towards professional qualification.”
Dr Ben Clark, programme leader for the course said “A key aim of our course is to develop post-graduates that are well prepared for professional practice. The programme builds knowledge of transport planning best practice and develops the strong communication, analytical and critical thinking skills that are needed to tackle the major challenges of our time, like decarbonizing transport systems. Our graduates are highly valued by employers and we are delighted that this has been recognized by the Transport Planning Professional Standards Committee.”
