Following extensive consultation with employers the revised standard for the transport planning Level 3 Apprenticeship has been accepted by the the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education(IfATE). The key changes to the standard relate to the End Point Assessment.
This now recognises the Transport Planning Technician qualification (TPTech), developed by TPS, to sit alongside EngTech. TPS is also recognised as a potential EPA body. TPS is currently working through the process of registering with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) with the aim of offering EPAs to the next cohort of apprentices in summer 2021.
TPS Skills Director, Keith Buchan, said:
“This is a major consolidation of the Level 3 apprenticeship and provides certainty for employers and trainees at least the next three years. It also recognises the employers’ wish to have a clearly defined technician qualification – this will be available for non-apprentices from the end of this year, and we are now planning for the first applications. TPTech, together with IncTP for completing the PDS, is part of completing the range of qualifications for transport planning, paralleling those available for engineers and planners. This will allow new pathways from apprenticeships
