Following on from work begun in 2017, TPS is consulting on the creation of a new technician level qualification for transport planners (TPTech).  This would offer recognition to many working in the profession who do not have access to a suitable qualification.  It would also allow transport planning apprentices to use it as their “end point assessment” and go on to a skills pathway such as PDS and on to TPP.

Keith Buchan, TPS Skills Director said

“While new qualification pathways have opened up through apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, we wanted to provide an appropriate qualification which would be available to members of non-engineering bodies; and have the right title!  Transport Planning Technicians need to be recognised and TPTech is our proposal to address this.  We look forward to receiving comments and subject to these could be offering TPTech in 2020.  Please respond now!”
