Congratulations to Stephen Bennett, Director Transport Consulting at Arup and past Chair of TPS on winning the Transport Planner of the Year Award presented at this year's Transport Practitioners Meeting and to Aya Collins, London Borough of Islington and Jo Ward, Freelance Consultant as runners up.

In presenting the Award to Steve, Mark Frost, TPS Chair said

"Even in an exceptional field of candidates this year, Stephen stood out for all the work he did in 2020 - largely in his own time - to keep TPS going during an exceptionally difficult time.  The award also recognises his work whilst at the Society as a founder of Transport Planning Day, and in the development of TPS’s first stocktake of the industry in Great Britain – the State of the Nations report.  All this on top of ongoing success in his day job as a Director of Transport Consulting at Arup, where he has made particular contribution to multi-modal transport studies and local transport decarbonisation.   Stephen is a fabulous ambassador for the industry and a worthy addition to the Transport Planner of the year half of fame! "

"Congratulations also to  the two runners up - Aya Collins for her exceptional role managing Islington Council’s People-friendly streets (PFS) programme  and to Jo Ward  for championing cycling and diversity in transport  and thank you to all our members who made nominations"

On receiving his Award Stephen Bennett pictured below said

" I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive the Transport Planner of the Year award from the Transport Planning Society. I would like to thank those who selected me for the award and everyone I have worked with in the transport planning business over the last year through extremely challenging times. I am particularly proud to have played a key role as Chair of the Society, which is going from strength to strength in celebrating and promoting transport planning, getting the status and recognition it deserves in making the world a better place for everyone.”
