A royal celebration of 20 years of ITP

ITP, a TPS Stakeholder Member  marked its 20th birthday, by holding a unique celebration event at The Waldorf Hilton Hotel in London on 23rd January 2019. The event was attended by HRH The Princess Royal and ITP’s clients, collaborators and friends from sustainable transport projects delivered over the last 20 years. HRH was delighted to support the event in recognition of ITP’slong-standing support for Transaid, the international transport charity of which she is the Patron. Lynda Addison, TPS Chair attended on behalf of TPS.

As well as celebrating 20 years of transport planning excellence, the event looked ahead to the challenges cities across the globe will experience over the next 20 years when seeking to deliver inclusive, affordable and sustainable mobility for all. Expert speakers included transport planners, architects, urban designers, economists, academics and planners. They delivered thought-provoking presentations that set the scene for informal discussion around key issues among attendees.

Speaking at the start of the event, HRH identified some of the issues associated with addressing transport poverty in world cities, and the crucial role that Transaid plays in helping to make lives better in communities across Africa. She also highlighted how Transaid and ITP share not only a common 20-year anniversary, but also philosophies on improving transport services by working to understand and meet the diverse mobility needs of local communities. HRH welcomed ITP’s support for Transaid over many years; not only through collaborating on projects, but also through fundraising efforts that have helped Transaid to deliver its work.

During the last 20 years ITP has been involved in a number of pioneering sustainable transport projects. Domestically, these have ranged from developing best practice guidance on Personalised Travel Planning for the Department for Transport, to advising TfL and Westminster City Council on accessibility and inclusive design considerations for the proposed transformation of Oxford Street. Internationally, ITP spearheaded the localisation and delivery of Bus Rapid Transit in Africa and South East Asia, while also developing strategies for optimising public transport networks in Eastern Europe, South Asia, and Central America.

ITP’s Founder and Chairman Colin Brader, a past winner of the TPS Transport Planner of the Year,  reflected:

“When I first set up ITP I was driven by the belief there is room in a commercial world for transport consultants that want to make a real difference to the way we travel. It brings me great pleasure to continue challenging our staff to directly engage with the issues facing society and mobility in the 21st Century, to question conventional wisdom, and to make their voices heard.

The diverse and interesting company that now exists is testament to our collective sense of adventure, curiosity, and dedication, and our 20th anniversary event has been a fantastic opportunity to thank those who have worked with us along the way.”
