TPS is pleased to announce the award of five Bursaries in this year’s Bursary competition. Five successful Bursary applicants have until 31 December to write a paper on their chosen topic relating to “Technology in Transport”. Each Bursary award is £500, with an additional £250 for “Bursary Paper of the Year”.

The submissions deadline for the 2016 Bursary competition was 30 June 2016 and five Bursaries have now been awarded under the general subject heading “Technology in Transport”.  

The five Bursarians and their chosen topics are :

Clare Cornes (TfGM) :
“Control Centres and Travel Demand Management in a growing city region”

Rebecca Craig (LB Hounslow) :
“What does on-demand technology mean for future transport networks? A comparative analysis of the effect of on-demand technology on public transport financing, accessibility and equity, with an emphasis on the global South”

Catherine Evans – (JMP)
“Utilising freely available technology to link the house buying process and sustainable travel”

Joely Hill (DHA)
“To what extent can social network platforms influence residents’ travel behaviour?”

Chris Small (TfGM)
“How technology can improve Bus Reliability in Greater Manchester”

Each Bursarian will write up to 5000 words on their chosen topic by 31 December 2016.
This year’s Bursary Competition is being held in collaboration with Transport Systems Catapult (TSC). Each Bursarian will receive £500 on producing a satisfactory paper and presenting it to the TPS Board. The best paper will also be awarded a prize for “Bursary of the Year” and an additional £250, to be presented at the TPS AGM on 2 March 2017

TPS is providing a mentor for each successful applicant to provide insight, guidance and assurance, and the completed paper may be disseminated by the Society more widely, if appropriate.
