Your role
The primary purpose of the role is to manage an effective and efficient team that will perform the Highway Authorities responsibility under the Planning Process.
A key purpose of this role is to formulate the Highway Authority's response to major and strategic planning consultations, Local Plans and Development Frameworks across the county.
We are looking for someone with drive and commitment who has a real passion for promoting high standards of sustainable transport in new developments by influencing a wide audience as to the benefits for the people of Suffolk.

Your responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will be to coordinate the Highway Authority's response and represent the Highway Authority at Public Inquiries and planning appeals to defend the position of the Highway Authority and to represent the Highway Authority in relation to development management at public meetings and Planning Committee meetings as appropriate.
You will also be required to analyse detailed and complex Transport Assessments and identify necessary improvements to Suffolk's road and transport infrastructure and work with the Intelligence Hub to review and assess network capacity across the county.
This will require innovative solutions to complex transport and societal challenges within local areas. Therefore, knowledge of Suffolk from a transport perspective will be advantageous.
You will need:
* highly developed verbal and written skills to interpret complex legislation, guidelines and technical information to produce reports, recommendations and advice for a wide range of audiences using a variety of media
* significant experience of applying creative thought and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to develop solutions to complex problems
* comprehensive understanding of transport legislation, local and national strategy, technical and political frameworks relevant to the planning process
* extensive experience of representing an organisation at public meetings in difficult or challenging circumstances.

The team
The Transport Strategy team is part of the Strategic Development division, helping to deliver growth in Suffolk.
The team is responsible for:
* developing transport policy, including the Local Transport Plan
* securing funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives, including active travel
* development management, ensuring new developments are sustainable in highway terms to support Suffolk’s growth ambitions.
