The role:

To be based in the South West and Wales regional team served by the Bristol and Cardiff offices, we are recruiting for several candidates at Senior Transport Planner to Managing Consultant level to join our Transport Planning consultancy practice.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to contribute to a high performing, dynamic team, working on projects for our unparalleled client base in the region and nationally.

As part of the wider Atkins multidisciplinary design and management team, our transport planners provide a key role in the conception, development and delivery of transport solutions that enable real change at a local level for transport users and society.

Atkins are the Framework Consultants for West of England Combined Authority (Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Bath & North East Somerset Council), Wiltshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council, meaning that you will have the opportunity to support the development of your local multi-modal transport systems. Within the wider business we also contribute to projects at a national scale for Network Rail, the Department for Transport and Highways England.

Responsibilities:

  • Public transport corridor and interchange improvements including Future Transport Zones.
  • Active travel, public realm and street design including LCWIPs.
  • Business Case and Funding production for opportunities such as Levelling Up Fund, Future High Streets Fund and major scheme public transport, active travel, and highway schemes.
  • Strategy and policy development for local authorities and Sub-National Transport Bodies.
  • Transport modelling and economic, environmental, and social impact appraisal.
  • Supporting master planning for new strategic developments.

Requirements:

Technical skills and experience in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Walking and cycling network development and design.
  • Business Case, appraisal, and economics.
  • Transport strategy and policy.
  • Scheme feasibility and development.
  • Future mobility.

Ability to demonstrate the following commensurate with their level of experience:

  • The fundamental aspects of project and task management.
  • Client interaction and management.
  • Ability to delegate and oversee others.
  • Application of the principles of the Transport Appraisal Process.
  • Application of best practice and guidance for the design of transport systems.
  • Highly adept at the collection, analysis, and manipulation of a wide range of data.
  • The preparation and review of reports and materials for clients and stakeholders.

Successful applicants will have:

  • More than 5 years’ experience.
  • A range of relevant technical skills and competencies.
  • The ability and desire to work on projects across the Transport Planning discipline.
  • A relevant planning, economics, geography, engineering degree or similar.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of current UK transport policy.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
