We are currently hiring for a Junior Transport Planner / Data Analyst to be based in our Consulting West team with responsibilities in Bristol and Cardiff. Responsibilities will include assistance in the development of insights into the movement and behaviours of people and their various means of travel across transport modes. This will require conducting background research on specific locations, strategies or policies and data collection and analysis, including spatial data analysis / GIS, data processing, coding and visualization. 

Our integrated team in Bristol / Cardiff is seeking an entry-level Transportation Planner/Data Analyst. The team undertakes unique projects. We seek a person with the technical expertise, experience and motivation to deliver innovative solutions. Current transportation planning projects include work for the public and private sector relating to multi-modal transportation planning, traffic engineering, demand modelling, transit planning, traffic micro simulation, parking, site planning & development, complete streets, pedestrian & bicycle facilities, and integrated land use/transportation planning.  

The transport consulting business works across the cities and transport markets. The candidate should be able to work within Transport Consulting but be able to work across Arup businesses in order to operate flexibly, particularly with the Infrastructure, Highways and Environmental groups. Along with work to support transport modelling studies the appointed candidate will also need to have an interest in producing business cases and undertaking wider economic impact assessments. The candidate should have the ability to understand the complex issues associated with transport planning and design projects. They should be able to work as part of a team and be able to meet deadlines and client requirements. 

Skills and Experience:

This role will need someone who is capable of using specialist software packages including spatial analysis tools (e.g. ArcGIS, Conveyal, Remix, Podaris) travel demand modelling tools (e.g. VISUM, Cube, Emme, TransCAD), simulation tools (e.g.VISSIM, MATSim) and traffic analysis tools (e.g. Synchro, Vistro). The ability to use advanced data analytics including data management, scripting, regression and use of open data sources such as OSM and GTFS.  Coding experience is also desireable.  

Experience in these and others relevant software packages is desirable.  

The candidate will need to undertake report writing and documentation of technical analysis using MSWord, Indesign, and Powerpoint.  

Required:Undergraduate degree in Planning or Civil Engineering, with a concentration in transportation, or related degree Coursework in transportation planning and/or engineering Relevant intern and/or research experience  Preferred:  Master’s degree in Transportation Planning or Transportation Engineering or related degree  Membership in at least one relevant professional organization Experience communicating the results of technical work via graphics and dashboards 

The role will support the work of the UKIMEA Digital Transport sub skills group and their integrated approach to tackling the market across the region. This will include the development of Agent Based Models and UMove packages.
