Station Capacity Specialist

Job Description

As a Station Capacity Specialist you will be carrying out station capacity assessments; analysing and interpreting results; and advising the best options for station development. Your work will help to shape the future rail network and ensure we have high performing stations that support safe movement of passengers across the country.

Your challenges will include:

  • Carrying out observations in peak hours at a station of interest.
  • Set up and commissioning of passenger surveys.
  • Analysing data to extract outputs required.
  • The creation and development of pedestrian simulation models.
  • Writing up study reports based on findings from data analysis and observations.
  • Presenting findings to project stakeholders and attending relevant meetings.
  • Working closely with project team members to deliver projects to agreed timescales and budgets.

Do you have:

  • A degree (or working towards a degree) in a relevant subject, such as Geography, Mathematics, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, able to communicate technical and management aspects of work to a senior audience.
  • An ability to analyse and solve modelling & appraisal problems and to accurately interpret results.
  • Good appreciation of project risk issues and application of these to day-to-day tasks.
  • Awareness and knowledge of transport modelling theory/ method, data collection, analytical techniques & appraisal methods.
  • Experience of applying pedestrian modelling software packages, e.g. Legion, on a range of projects.
  • Proficiency in Excel, with some experience of macros, Word, and PowerPoint.
