Associate / Associate Director Level Transport Planner - Development Planning

Job Description

ITP is an award-winning transport planning and research consultancy based in the UK.  We work with some of the world’s foremost city authorities, transport operators, property developers and funding agencies to plan, design and deliver highly sustainable mobility networks and places that seek to improve the way the world moves.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced transport planner to join our Development Planning team.  You will be expected to lead a range of UK projects in the residential, employment and leisure sectors and therefore have a range of skills and experience to manage existing clients but also develop and generate new opportunities. You will be based in either our Birmingham or Nottingham office, but your work will involve you travelling to different locations from time to time – travelling to meetings and collaborating with clients, as required by the projects.

We expect the right candidate to come equipped to:

  • Lead development planning projects for a range of clients in the private and public sectors
  • Manage time effectively, working with colleagues to deliver to scope and budget
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, helping to secure repeat work
  • Proactively contribute to company growth through business development activities
  • Inspire and develop less-experienced members of staff by freely sharing your knowledge

We think the ideal candidate will also have:

  • Exceptional transport planning skills – ideally with a range of understanding of project delivery, highway design, traffic modelling and report writing for technical audiences
  • A comprehensive understanding of working with the UK planning system
  • A sound understanding of the wider transport planning sector, including transport strategy and public transport
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects for private sector clients and/or local authorities as well as self-guided learning and progressive career development
  • A growing network of industry contacts and positive client referrals
  • Excellent report-writing skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • A Chartered Engineer / TPP (or similar) professional qualification

As well as being a great place to develop your technical and professional skills, ITP offers: a flexible, friendly, informal and collaborative working environment; exciting project opportunities; and a competitive remuneration package - including salary sacrifice schemes and flexible working.

If the idea of joining us appeals, please send your CV and a covering letter (including expected salary) to Jim Bradley (, or for an informal and confidential conversation call Jim on 0203 300 1810. Further information on ITP is available at
