We are looking for Principal Transport Planners and Modellers to join an established and highly experienced transport team in Cambridge and Hertford. Our Team undertakes a full range of planning work including policy and strategy development, modelling and scheme feasibility and assessment, and business case development.

Our projects range from small-scale local transport improvements to major road network, rail and sustainable travel schemes. The team works closely with our Transport and Infrastructure, Services, Structures and Environmental teams on larger multi-disciplinary development proposals.

The Cambridge and Hertford offices is complemented by our other offices nationally, including transport planning teams in Basingstoke, Southampton and London.

The role presents an excellent opportunity to progress your career and work on a wide range of regionally, nationally and internationally based transport planning projects.

A typical week would include:

  • Working on a range of primarily public sector projects to support and inform the development of policies, strategies and funding bids for a range of locally or nationally significant transport schemes
  • Providing managerial and technical support to the wider Transport Planning team, by undertaking a broad range of roles from technical delivery to leading the delivery of projects within time and budget
  • Reviewing technical delivery, presenting results, report writing, provision of advice to clients
  • Skills transfer to junior team members, including line management responsibility
  • Contributing to our process of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing relating to Transport Planning across our national business
  • Fostering client relationships, identifying work winning opportunities, leading or contributing to bids to secure further projects for the team

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in a numerate, transport or related discipline
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrable experience of transport policy, appraisal guidance and assessment techniques.
  • A strong track record of working collaboratively with local authority clients
  • Proven project management experience, with the ability to deliver client satisfaction and commercial success
  • Good written and verbal communication skills especially experience in explaining transport modelling outputs to a non-technical audience and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders to communicate information
  • In-depth experience in delivering transport assessments, feasibility studies or business cases in support of funding bids or planning applications
  • Experience in scoping, pricing and bidding new projects including extensions to existing commissions and new project opportunities

Desirable Skills:

  • Transport related MSc
  • APMP or Prince2 Project Management qualifications
  • Chartered status or equivalent with a relevant institution
