Senior Development Transport Planning Consultant

Job Description

AECOM are currently recruiting for a Senior Transport Planner to join our Development Planning team in St Albans. We are now looking to enhance and grow this Development Transport Planning team with individuals with a sound technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

St Albans is one of our central hubs for the Transport Planning and Development Planning team, located 30 minutes north from London St Pancras / Kings Cross, and on the Thameslink railway line with direct routes to Croydon, Wimbledon, Luton, Brighton, and more.

Our Development transport planning teams work with private and public sector clients, architects, planners and other property professionals throughout the development life cycle; providing services from site feasibility through to completion. We undertake Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Preliminary and Detailed Designs and Safety Audits.

As a Senior Development Transport Planner (or Senior Development Transport Planning Consultant) we would ideally expect you to have a rounded skill set in development related transport assessment, with some wider experience in policy implementation, modelling and technical design. We would also expect good written and oral communication skills which we would continue to develop. Some knowledge and ability or qualification in civil engineering would be advantageous.

 

Job responsibilities as a Senior Development Transport Planner :

  • Delivery of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and preliminary highway designs.

  • Work with private and public sector clients, architects, planners and other property professionals throughout the development life cycle; providing services from site feasibility through to project completion.

  • Supervising work, ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard and that is managed to programme and budget.

  • Support team leader in managing and mentoring junior staff.

  • Contributing to technical client reports and presentations. Data handling and manipulation using MS Office products.

  • Overseeing production of supporting drawings and diagrams using AutoCAD and Illustrator.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • A degree in an analytical subject such as engineering, geography, mathematics, economics or similar.

  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, CILT, TPS, ICE).

  • A good understanding and working experience of the principles of transport planning

  • Experience in using one or more relevant transport modelling packages e.g. ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG, etc.

  • Experience in the preparation of development related Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and Access Studies, with some wider experience in policy implementation, modelling and technical design.

  • Experience developing fee proposals.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to communicate well.

  • Good numerical, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Good level of competence in the use of MS Office products (including Excel and Word).

  • Ability to work unsupervised, leading a piece of work or working within a project team.

  • The ability to communicate technical concepts and mentor and support more junior staff.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator preferred.

  • A masters degree in a relevant subject would also be desirable but is not essential
